Abstract

This IDC study examines how organizations can use green technology in the office environment in terms of procurement process, the role of peripherals in paper management/managed print services, and IT asset disposal and device fleet management to reduce operational costs as well as promote environmental sustainability.

"In Asia/Pacific, the role of green office management has been largely underplayed, with organizations focusing more on reducing costs by reducing power consumption within the datacenter. During this troubled economic period, organizations are searching for more ways to manage their budgets; and saving money through green office management is a good alternative. Currently, green office management is still in a nascent stage, with the majority of companies focusing on one or two components of green office management, such as recycling initiatives and power management in the workplace. However, green office management includes a broader spectrum of components, namely procurement, energy-efficiency measures, and document and printing management, as well as IT asset disposal and device fleet management. Companies need to understand and implement all of these green office components to positively impact on the bottom line and the environment more," says Audrey Heng, associate market analyst, Green IT and Emerging Technologies Advisory Services, IDC Asia/Pacific.
