Abstract
Description
Bluetooth low energy has come a long way over the past 12 months. However, one
thing remains constant - the Bluetooth industry has incredibly high
expectations of this technology. This version of Bluetooth represents the
technology' s most promising development that will allow it to diversify into
new industry sectors. Where there is a specific demand for a low power
interoperable standard, in many cases, Bluetooth low energy technology is a
good fit.
As of August 2008, four single-mode chips and three dual-mode Bluetooth low
energy chipsets have been announced. As the specification nears completion,
these announcements are a sign that momentum is gathering.
Highlights of the report are as follows:
- Bluetooth low energy market size forecasts for 2009 to 2014.
- Forecast variance between 2008 and 2009 editions is tabulated and
discussed.
- Single-mode and dual-mode Bluetooth low energy are forecast and analysed
separately.
- Forecasts are broken down into 10 industry sectors including healthcare,
sports, watches, home entertainment and proximity sensors.
- For single-mode application areas, further breakdowns are provided, i.e.
automotive forecasts include tyre pressure monitors, sensors, electronic keys
and remote controls.
- For each device the following is provided: unit and IC shipments, and
revenues.
- A detailed technology review includes profiles, use-cases enabled,
specification details and a brief analysis of competing technologies.
- A competitive environment considers the current situation of both classic
Bluetooth IC vendors and current proprietary IC providers. Supplier profiles
are provided.
