Abstract

The enterprise sector has always proved a challenging market for telecommunications operators, with the attraction of high revenue, long term contracts, high volumes of users and healthy margins increasingly offset by demands for greater value for money, security and technology innovation. Nowhere has this been more evident than in the erosion of fixed line revenues and profitability in the enterprise market. Over the past two to three years, both large enterprises and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have slowly leaked fixed line margin and volume away from fixed line providers in many markets, with fixed line replacement occurring on both a piecemeal and wholesale basis.

This report examines the key trends influencing the pace and nature of enterprise fixed line replacement, and looks at how both fixed and mobile operators are positioning themselves to deal with the challenges of enterprise fixed line replacement. Key fixed line replacement solutions for enterprises such as mobile broadband are discussed in depth, together with four examples of operators who have grasped the challenge of enterprise fixed line replacement wholeheartedly.
