Safety light curtains are safety systems that can automatically interrupt the operation of hazardous machinery when a human operator is nearby. An array of synchronized, parallel infrared light beams is projected from a photoelectric transmitter to a receiver unit. The receiving unit's phototransistors and supporting circuitry are programmed to detect only the pulse and frequency that have been assigned to it. External light sources are rejected more effectively using these strategies.
