Membrane filtration is referred to as the filtration process that involves the use of the membrane for the separation of molecules of different sizes and characteristics. It is used for the removal of the bacteria, microorganisms, particulates, and natural organic material that can impart color, tastes, and odors to water and react with disinfectants to form disinfection byproducts. It involves the passing of the single feed stream through a membrane system that separates it into two individual streams i.e., permeate and the retentate. The global membrane filtration market is segmented based on product type as reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), microfiltration (MF), and nanofiltration (NF).
