Subsea Pumps Market size was valued at USD 1,864.2 Million in 2023, expanding at a CAGR of 7.50% from 2024 to 2032.
Pumps used in submerged oil and gas production are sold in the subsea pump market. An increased flow of hydrocarbons to the surface is caused by these pumps' assistance in raising the fluid pressure at the wellhead. The need for subsea pumping systems is expected to increase along with the expansion in offshore oil and gas production. Businesses are putting money into research and development to create sophisticated, more dependable, and long-lasting subsea pumps. Because they are more economical and efficient than hydraulic pumps, electric subsea pumps are becoming more and more popular. The need for subsea pumps is fueled by the rising need for subsea boosting systems, which allow fluid pressure at the wellhead.
Subsea Pumps Market- Market Dynamics
Expanding Activities for Offshore Exploration of Oil and Gas to Propel Market Growth
The increasing need for offshore oil and gas exploration operations is driving the worldwide subsea pumps market. Energy corporations are forced to search for and extract hydrocarbons from more difficult conditions, such as deep-sea basins, when conventional oil and gas deposits become depleted. The preference for offshore exploration has increased demand for sophisticated subsea pumping systems. In order to efficiently access the enormous unexplored reserves located beneath the ocean floor, energy corporations are making significant investments in subsea technologies. Subsea pumps are essential for increasing the rate at which hydrocarbons are recovered because they keep pressure levels stable and make it easier for gas and oil to be transported to the surface. Subsea pump sales are anticipated to rise steadily as long as the offshore sector keeps growing.
Subsea Pumps Market- Key Insights
As per the analysis shared by our research analyst, the global market is estimated to grow annually at a CAGR of around 7.50% over the forecast period (2024-2032)
Based on type segmentation, the helico-axial category was predicted to show maximum market share in the year 2023
Based on application segmentation, the subsea boosting category was the leading segment in 2023
On the basis of region, Latin America was the leading revenue generator in 2023
The Global Subsea Pumps Market is segmented on the basis of Type, Application, and Region.
The market is divided into the following categories based on type: Centrifugal, Helico-axial, Hybrid pump, Twin screw, Co-axial, and ESP. The helico-axial category dominates the market. A vital component in subsea environments, the effectiveness with which Helico-Axial Pumps manage high-pressure situations is well-known. Helico-Axial Pumps' capacity to efficiently manage and sustain pressure is a vital quality in deep-sea oil and gas extraction operations, where pressures can be exceedingly high. These pumps are ideal for subsea operations since they are made to withstand the demanding conditions seen in deep-sea applications. Helico-Axial Pumps are particularly relevant in the offshore oil and gas extraction industry, which is typically served by the global subsea pump market. Their structure facilitates the effective management of hydrocarbons in submerged settings, hence enhancing the efficiency of oil and gas extraction in offshore areas. The reason for the prevalence of Helico-Axial Pumps is their ability to fulfill the particular needs of subsea applications effectively.
The market is divided into three categories based on application: Subsea boosting, Subsea separation, Subsea injection, and Gas compression. The subsea boosting category dominates the market and is likely to maintain its dominance during the forecast period. To maximize the recovery of hydrocarbons from subsea wells, subsea boosting is an essential application. Subsea boosting uses pumps to increase the pressure of gas or oil in the reservoir, increasing production rates and prolonging the life of established operations. Subsea boosting is a major area of attention for the oil and gas industry since it can effectively extract additional hydrocarbons from subsea reservoirs. Sustaining ideal production rates in subsea fields requires reservoir pressure to be maintained. Achieving and sustaining the necessary pressure levels is mostly dependent on subsea boosting pumps. The deployment of subsea boosting devices becomes crucial to reverse this reduction and guarantee a steady supply of hydrocarbons as reservoirs age and natural pressure drops.
Subsea Pumps Market- Geographical Insights
Geographically, this market is widespread into the regions of North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East and Africa. These regions are further divided as per the nations bringing business.
Over the course of the forecast period, Latin America is anticipated to hold the greatest share of the global market for Subsea Pumps, driven by factors like lower breakeven costs and quicker payback periods than offshore initiatives in other countries. Brazil has become a major participant in this regard, as the region's oil output is greatly influenced by its offshore pre-salt oil reserves. Brazil's increasing reliance on offshore resources is demonstrated by the fact that by the end of 2020, these fields produced around 75% of the nation's oil. This pattern can be linked to developments in drilling technology, a rise in industry knowledge, and greater infrastructure, all of which lower production costs and boost the effectiveness of offshore operations.
In addition, the Subsea Pumps market is anticipated to expand at the fastest rate in the world during the projected period in Europe. Leading nations involved in offshore oil and gas operations in the North Sea and the Norwegian Continental Shelf are Norway, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. The demand for subsea pumping solutions is fueled by the region's established offshore assets as well as the advancement of fresh finds in frontier areas. Europe's robust network of engineering businesses, technology suppliers, and oilfield service companies that specialize in subsea equipment and services supports the continent's dominant position in the sector. The need for subsea pumps is further fueled by measures to improve energy security and lower greenhouse gas emissions, which encourage investments in subsea infrastructure and subsea processing technologies.
There are numerous well-diversified worldwide and regional players in the subsea pump industry such as Aker Solutions ASA, Baker Hughes Company, General Electric Company, Framo AS, and ITT Bornemann GmbH, among others, which makes it quite competitive. Due to their market reach and brand image, a few major international businesses, however, control a large portion of the market share. The subsea pump market is becoming increasingly competitive due to the fast pace of market expansion and rise in demand in this sector, which is drawing in more participants. The strategy and investment specifics needed to increase their footprint are provided by the competitive landscape.
September 2022: In Stavanger, Norway, a new subsea production technology center is set to receive an investment of USD 100 million from Baker Hughes. It is anticipated that the facility, which will be utilized to explore new technologies for subsea production, will bring 100 new jobs to the area.
August 2022: Together with the Norwegian business FASTsubsea, Equinor and Var Energi decided to participate in a Joint Industry Program with Malaysian operator Petronas in order to certify and test "a low-cost, topside-less subsea multiphase pump." Funding and end-user knowledge were expected to be provided by Equinor and Var Energi to support the development and testing program.
August 2022: Aker Solutions, Schlumberger, and Subsea 7 formed a new venture to assist customers in unlocking reserves and shortening cycle times, thereby promoting efficiency and innovation in subsea production. It was anticipated that the deal would enable clients to reach their decarbonization targets by bringing together a portfolio of technologies, including subsea gas compression, subsea pump systems, all-electric subsea production systems, and other electrification capabilities.
