Electroporation is a useful molecular biology technique that allows for non-chemical transformation of bacteria and yeasts as well as transfection of tissue culture cells (e.g. mammalian cells). Electroporation systems deliver short bursts of a high-intensity electric field to cells. The electrical field makes the cell membrane more permeable.
