The forecast and historical data focuses on end-user consumption of three categories of enterprise storage systems - external OEM, internal OEM, and "other," which covers cumulative shipments of systems sold directly to customers by original design manufacturers (ODMs). For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending), terabytes, and price per gigabyte."Despite the headwinds linked to continuous movement of storage resources into public cloud and adoption of software-defined storage (SDS), the external enterprise storage systems market is growing and expects to grow in the following four years, although at a low rate typical for mature markets," says Natalya Yezhkova, research vice president, IT Infrastructure at IDC. "However, there are segments within the market that will outperform the overall market, most noticeably hyperconverged appliances and all-flash arrays."
