This IDC Market Perspective presents responses from a brief survey IDC conducted with all major print and copy OEMs in March and April 2025. The survey aimed to capture an overall market assessment of the hardcopy industry. We used 10 open-ended questions for respondents to elaborate their thoughts and opinions on important market developments. "We continue to observe inherent challenges in the legacy print business that are growing in intensity under highly volatile geopolitical market conditions. For print OEMs, it means that the market shows formidable obstacles to gain success," said Keith Kmetz, program vice president, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions at IDC. "The key is to increase market share at the expense of competitors while gaining net-new business through adjacent product and market categories. Although this is a difficult position to be in, we believe that we will see successes achieved by a certain set of OEMs that focus on strong execution and high levels of customer service to maintain a future growth path."
