The IEA predicts the world will add more than 4,600 GW of renewable energy capacity from 2023 to 2028. Producers will seek the most durable wire and request documentation on coating thickness.
  • Automation: The steel industry will invest multiple billions of dollars to digitally transform their facilities from 2025 to 2027. Closed-loop control of production will reduce scrap, and more closely control the thickness of the zinc coating. Producers will pass on the benefits of improved automation to customers, primarily through tighter control over coating uniformity and consistency.
  • Supply Chain: Imports of steel will further concentrate in the most efficient, low-cost-producing regions. Producers will seek to diversify their supply base to more secure locations. Increased trade will bolster the world economy, according to the WTO. Companies will adjust inventories and production based on multiple supply locations.

Zinc price volatility and the consolidation of customers will put additional pressure on traditionally low-margin producers. The most attractive business opportunities will exist where reductions in corrosion-related maintenance provide a competitive edge. Suppliers that reduce the need for maintenance and improve emission performance will win differentiated business.

Recent Developments in the Galvanized Steel Wire Market

Galvanized steel wire is subject to a variety of global policies and agreements, and is expected to experience significant changes in the global marketplace from 2025 to 2027. Decarbonization policies and automation are expected to change construction and result in changes in demand and supply for galvanized steel wire. Lucintel expects changing demands for galvanized steel wire in the automotive and alternative energy industries, among others.

  • United States Tariff Rates: : Following an investigation by the U.S. International Trade Commission under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, the U.S. Department of Commerce restored the 25 percent ad valorem tariff on imports of steel in March 2025. The tariff increased the price of imported steel and, to some degree, insulated domestic steel producers from import competition. However, buyers and end-users of galvanized steel wire will renegotiate contracts to secure the steel they need at the best prices, and will make changes to their inventories.
  • European Union: Producers of steel wire in the EU will pass the costs of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to their customers. With the CBAM, the EU will require all importers of steel to provide evidence of the emissions associated with the steel they import. Eu Wire Producers that use renewable energy to produce steel wire will be in a better position to supply customers that are concerned about the carbon footprint of the steel wire they purchase.
  • Capacity Localization: As part of the government's target to achieve a domestic crude steel capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030, steel capacity expansion continued. As a result, local steel coils are becoming available in the market. Availability of steel coils will help convert steel wire to galvanized steel wire and reduce lead times. This is expected to promote competition in the construction and other Durables industries.
  • Demand in The Energy Sector: Growth in renewable energy infrastructure and inter-regional electricity transmission is fueling the demand for CRWI (Corrosion Resistant Welded Insulated) wire and other metal system products. The IEA reported that 2024 saw a record increase of approximately 700 GW of renewable energy capacity. It is expected that this trend will continue in the coming years.
  • Process Automation: Producers of galvanized wire are striving for higher automation in their processes to improve product consistency and reduce product rejections. Based on Bekaert's 2025 annual report, galvanizing process automation has the potential to significantly reduce production costs.

There is a positive outlook for the steel industry in the coming years due to increasing government spending on Infrastructure. Process automation and improved product compliance are expected to help companies improve their market position.
